What is Graphic Design?
Areas Of Interest

Subject/Content
The subject and content of my design of which I am interested in are:

Fashion.
Graphic design for fashion is mainly used to promote the produce. To keep the fashion world's newest product in the publics eye, a lot of promotional work, along with branding the company and also the corporate identity for the business.

Graphic design within fashion is across a HUge range of medias. From billboards and publications to in store graphics and signage.

Retail
Graphic design for retail is seen everywhere. I like the idea of this as you get the oppourtunity to adapt your designs to a range of medias promoting the company/product.

Retail graphics are targeted towards the public, to entice them into the shop then once in the shop making them feel comfortable and happy to be looking around the shop.

Photography
I really like photography within graphic design. I think it looks proffessional, and a photograph is relatable to the audience and much more life like for people to relate to and understand.

Designs with photography can be as simple as product photography targeted at the consumer society. On the other hand photography can be targetting the 'arty' world and is more appreciated by other fellow artists to understand a photograph.

Travelling
The subject of travelling intrigues me!.. I think that if I was also to travel and work/visit different places my design would be influenced by the experiences and cultures I'd see and do.

Media/Process
The ways in which I want to work with or in are:

Design for print such as: catalogues / books / magazines / posters / corporate identity
Design for web

Product and Outcome:
The products I would like to create are:

Websites
After having an introduction to web I do think I would like to design websites for clients. Graphic design for websites is mainly used for promotion and informing the public of the company/business is there and what they do.

There are thousands of websites and since the graphic design industry is slowly progressing into the digital age, a website seems essential for business's these days.
Publications:
Graphic design for the publications I like doing are targeted at the arts. People within the art industry appreciate the clean cut simplicity. I also would like to create publications for the fashion industry and use the fashion photography.

Publications are one of the  main ways within graphic design to promote and also inform with a lot of space to hold information.

Packaging
Graphic design for packaging is a huge industry targeted at the consumer society. People will buy into the product if it 'looks good'. Therefore graphic design is an essential within packaging to be able to capture the essence of the product in the design.

The food industry has a huge demand for packaging design, as there is a consistent need for it as new and developing brand come out. Along with current brand wanting to modernise their product.

Audience / Context
The audience of whom i would like to target in my profession would be:
Other creatives
Retailers
Fashion based companies
I also want to do a lot of branding and corporate identity
Businesses in need of a website

I really like this layout of type, it just makes me interested into reading what it is actually about.

This is quite cool!! As a pair me and sophie want to create interesting experiments with the paper for people to be inspired by.
Ideas for mailshot and sample book..

I think the image below is a good idea for packaging for a mailshot.. I like the way in which the paper folds around the package!

For the sample book, i think it would be quite cool to have different materials within it such as acetate and samples of the card, so that people can interact with the book.

For our 3D type i really like this idea! i think it would be really effective to make a few designs out of paper along with the type, and also the shredded paper. Then photograph this experiment to create a poster.
Poster Ideas
What we want to do in our poster campaign is to create interesting designs done by hand and also screen printing experiments. We also thought about the technique of shredding some multi coloured paper and also creating 3D type, then photograph the experiments to create posters.

I really like these three designs above.. I think it would be really effective to create loads of the same designs then fold them to create a bigger folded poster.

After having a discussion with sophie we both decided that we would like a simple design of poster then experiment more with the print processes

Mohawk is another paper company and classed as competition for Fedrigoni

This is our kind of concept. We want to express the versatility of the product. Inform people of what it can do in an exciting and interesting way.
Clients for Fedrigoni..

Museum of London

Visa

Links London

Mullbery

Boots

All of which are quite luxurious products, in both retail and advertising.

The Fedrigoni family has a tradition in the paper world since 1717, when the San Colombano paper mill was set up close to the hermitage of the same name in Vallarsa-Rovereto.
The paper mill was sold in 1814 to the Jacob family following the Napoleonic wars.

Giuseppe Antonio Fedrigoni, after a long period dedicated to commerce in paper, began paper production in 1888 in the Verona Paper mill, that was subsequently expanded by his son, Antonio.
From 1931, Gianfranco Fedrigoni, assisted by brothers Renzo and Arrigo, gave new impulse to the development of the company.

For our designs we want to use a luminous colour like this green on our designs. To make something fresh and clean/exciting..

As we are trying to promote quite a sophisticated brand, we thought that embossing would be a simplistic yet effective way of doing this.
